There are two main construction types of wood flooring. "Solid" wood is milled from one piece of wood. This type of flooring needs to be nailed or stuck down on the sub floor. "Engineered" wood consists of three or more layers in a cross-ply construction. Engineered flooring can often be used as a floating floor or stuck down to the sub floor.
